Caterpillars In Viana

Hello Everyone!

This marks the first week in my new area and it was great! This time I'm in a ward and it's actually really well established! The members have been super great and welcoming so far. It's also amazing how involved they are in helping with missionary work in the area.

We had three baptisms this Saturday, and while I haven't known them long, Pedro, Teodoro, and Frank are super awesome, and I loved the lessons we had with them this week.

This transfer, since I'm back in Luanda, I decided to go all out and try a bunch of new Angolan foods. Some were super awesome and others less so. My absolute favorite is definitely Gindungo. It's a pepper/hot sauce and it goes on just about anything. It's so spicy you can't put more than a spoonful on food because it heats up like nothing else. I absolutely love it and I will be making my own as soon as I buy some gindungo peppers.

The worst food I've tried this week is 100% the caterpillar. It's super common and actually popular to eat and see people selling it on the road, but it's just as disgusting as you'd think it would be. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good photo or video, so I might have to take one for the team and eat it again.

This week for companionship study, Elder Tavares and I read Moroni together, and I think as a whole, it's my favorite book in the Book of Mormon. The discussions on faith, ordinances, and Moroni's testimony are just incredible to read. I'd like to send a blanket invitation to everyone to go and read Moroni, even the chapters that are just prayers and ordinations. It's a fairly small book, but it's incredibly powerful.

I hope everyone is fantastic and stays safe this week!

Elder Thatcher Bishop
